Funny turns in frail older adults

With Dr Jenny Butler

This session will largely focus on the assessment and management of postural hypotension in older people. It will also cover the physiology of orthostasis in ageing (what is normal and what isn’t), as well as how to tease out whether funny turns are autonomic or something else (cardiac, seizure, vertigo, disequilibrium …). We will then look at how to assess for the causes of postural hypotension, and at management strategies (non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic) in a pragmatic real-world setting.

Assessment and management of common dental issues in older adults

With Juliet Gray & Dr Moira Smith

What Matters Most in Oral Health for Older Adults

Maintaining good oral health in older adults can be challenging. Physical and cognitive changes as we age increase the risk of oral disease. This is further complicated by a multitude of barriers to accessing oral assessment and treatment. We will explore these issues using a case-based example, describe a New Zealand research project with an alternative care delivery model and share our perspectives on what matters most in oral health care for older adults
